Well, the charity all-dayer on Saturday 19th July was a resounding success, with over £600 raised on the day for the the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
By all accounts the evening turned into one of the busiest nights ever at the Barge, with large crowds coming to see headliners the Lovedays and the Singing Loins.
Many thanks to everybody who turned up and did their bit, whether it was as a spectator, performer, or organiser.
Special thanks must go to the bar staff who did a sterling job under difficult circumstances (ie. running out of glasses) trying to keep everybody watered.
All performers turned up on time and s schedules were once again adhered to... we're getting too good at this ;-)
Watch this space for photos/live recordings.

Trafalgar Day Report - over £500 raised for RNLI
[posted on 07/11/2007]

|
The Barge's Trafalgar Day event was a huge success, with over £500 being raised for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI).
Live music started at 3pm with an 'open-mic' slot until 5pm when the featured performers took over until 11pm. The music was excellent throughout with a wide variety of styles on offer (see below for list of performers).
Amazingly everyone turned up on time, shedules were adhered to and things ran very smoothly indeed - all credit to Gastove for making it all happen.
A big 'thank you' to Gastove (organiser), Jay (sound engineer), all the performers, Tim, Ellie, Mark and Mike (bar persons), and everyone who turned up on the day and did their bit for this very worthwhile cause.
Photos from the day can be seen here.

Halloween Report
[posted on 02/11/2007]

Well, Halloween at the Barge was a great success with many people getting into the spirit of the occasion by dressing up in ghoulish costumes. Live music by Robert 'The Reaper' Brown was excellent.
The prize for best fancy dress went jointly to Ray the 'hellish hillbilly' and Chris the 'creepy clown'... congratulations!
All in all an excellent night was had by all - many thanks to the staff for making it all happen, and to everyone for getting into the spirit.
Photos of the evening can be seen here.
Finally, a poem by Simone:
Halloween at the Barge
It was the night of Halloween
The pub was quite a scene
They dressed for the night
Giving everyone a fright
Black witches with pointed hats
And from the ceiling a bat
Long noses and brooms
Part of their costumes
A man wore long black hair
He sat in the back on a chair
Dressed up and drinking his beer
In the corner in .. fear
Many were there to have fun
The night had just begun
A prize for the bestdressed
I think very much impressed
The spider hung from the beam
Dave didn't even scream
Because it was Halloween
Robert Brown played the guitar
Ray and I sat at the bar
Mark the barman was white as a sheet
With Ellie beside him looking neat
They looked a scary sight
Both in white
It was quite a night
The pub filled with candle light
The atmosphere was good
Everyone did what they could
People chatting and drinking a beer
On a night with no fear
Photos taken through the night
Of all the different Halloween sights
A great night at the Barge
Tim the landlord was in charge
You missed a very good night
On Halloween night
It will be on again next year
We hope you will be there.

OXJAM 5-a-side tournament
[posted on 08/10/2007]

|
|
On Sunday 7th of October 2007 a team cobbled together from the Barge's bar staff, pool team and regular drinkers went to The Oxjam All-Star 5-a-side tournament to take on the might of Medway's music industry in this annual event. We are pleased to report that our team were very successful, winning the tournament overall, scoring 31 goals and conceding just 4 along the way. Each member of the team contributed to the goals, though special mention must go to Luke Dickinson who finished the teams top scorer with 10 goals on the day. Also to Christian who looked after the team on the day, but also played a vital role in the final coming on to replace players when their legs and injuries finally caught up with them. The boys are very tired and a bit battered and bruised, so if you see any of them hobbling around the pub in the next few days please feel free to by them a drink - it would be most appreciated.
The conquering Barge 5-a-side team consisted of (in alphabetical order); Luke Coker, Luke Dickinson, Darren Johnson (Digit), Mikey Lewis, Steve Lewis and Shaun Wraight. Manager and superstar sub Christian.
The webmaster would like to extend his webbiest congratulations to all concerned, and suggest that maybe Christian could teach Paul Scally a thing or two ;-)

No smoking from 1st July 2007
[posted on 01/06/2007]
|
|
|
From the 1st July 2007 it becomes illegal to smoke in any 'enclosed' public space. This means that the Barge, along with every other pub in the UK, will have to become a non-smoking environment by law.
A decision has been made to bring in the ban a month early at the Barge in order to iron out any teething troubles.
Tim has put a lot of time and effort into turning the patio area in the back garden into a smoker-friendly environment - it is covered, and sheltered from the elements. There is also heating.
The patio is accessed directly from the back door of the bar area, so there is no need to get your fags wet when going for a puff. |
