Welcome to The Barge, Medway's best-kept secret.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Gillingham, Kent, The Barge is a cosy, friendly watering hole with a lot to offer:

  • Regular live music events... folk / blues / jazz / acoustic
  • Regular 'open-mic' acoustic jam nights
  • Weekly quiz night every Sunday at 8.30 - cash prizes
  • Real Ale - guest beers and regular brews always available
  • Candlelight atmosphere
  • Pool & darts, and a selection of traditional board games
  • Large family garden with great river views
  • Comfortable sheltered & heated smoking area

See the about us page for more details.

Music and Ale are always the mainstays of the pub. Friendship is also a major ingredient in what makes this place unique - as the sign behind the bar says:

"There are no strangers here, only friends who have not yet met"

Andy Smythe Duo

Andy writes wonderfully evocative songs on guitar and piano which paint a fascinating portrait of life in 21st century England. Come and enjoy one of the finest new voices on the UK folk and acoustic scene.

If you love great male singer/songwriters who love storytelling like Dylan, Mike Scott, Rufus Wainwright, Phil Ochs, Springsteen then you'll love Andy.

Sally Ironmonger
close

Sally Ironmonger doesn't sing with an American accent, she is English, and yes, Ironmonger is her real name. English and proud.

At 16 she played in folk clubs with a Bob Dylan hat, and was hooked on performance - she hasn't stopped singing since.

Her lyrics are sad, happy, accusing, questioning and researched - but always her own words, her own English.

The Sally Ironmonger Trio is different ....

One Day Elliott + Guests

"One day Elliot pulled out a fantastic set of post punk rock and roll, pulling 4 part vocal harmonies, acapella parts and ambitious chord stuctures. A real display that they know how to write songs, understand harmony and melody, the more ambitious concepts of pop song writing and stagecraft only honed through many, many gigs, superb" - Live review from the Race Horse, Northampton
