Welcome to The Barge, Medway's best-kept secret.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Gillingham, Kent, The Barge is a cosy, friendly watering hole with a lot to offer:

  • Regular live music events... folk / blues / jazz / acoustic
  • Regular 'open-mic' acoustic jam nights
  • Real Ale - guest beers and regular brews always available
  • Candlelight atmosphere
  • Pool & darts, and a selection of traditional board games
  • Large family garden with great river views
  • Comfortable sheltered & heated smoking area

See the about us page for more details.

Music and Ale are always the mainstays of the pub. Friendship is also a major ingredient in what makes this place unique - as the sign behind the bar says:

"There are no strangers here, only friends who have not yet met"

Truckstop Honeymoon (From USA)

featuring Mike West (USA)

There ain’t nothing nice about Truckstop Honeymoon. They play banjos and wash tubs. They sing about adultery and oil refineries. It’s break-neck breakdowns or heart-break waltzes. Like a Dodge with a burnt out clutch, their music has two speeds and no reverse. Katie Euliss learned guitar, piano and bucket bass in the streets of New Orleans. She scammed enough money from tourists to buy Lucky Strikes and smoked oysters for six years. Then she met Mike West. Part entertainer, part snake oil salesman, Mike lived by pickin’ banjo and selling cds that he claimed were a curative for hangovers and small mindedness. Together they began a perpetual tour of North America, Europe and Australia. They spent their wedding night in the Tiger Truck Stop, somewhere between Lafayette and the Atchafalya Swamp. Truckstop Honeymoon was born.

Jazz At The Barge (with Jazz Faction)
close

Every second Wednesday of the month with The Jazz Faction - guest musicians welcome.

The Jazz Faction is a Medway Towns band formed out of sheer desperation of the fact that nobody else wanted to play jazz stuff with these 4 misfits.

Unfortunately fate played a part in throwing them all together and producing the result of a musical mayhem of jazz standards that have been altered beyond recognition. The band also has its own compositions for which the plagiarism police are listening out for... look out Alfie they're onto you!

The band consists of Alfie Cooke on Double Bass, his brother Scott Cooke on Saxes, Emitt Kyle on Percussion and Fat Boy Slim Pete Weller on Guitar (the 'Slim' refers to the guitar only).

See The Jazz Faction on YouTube.

Stuart Turner
close

Stuart was brought up miles from the nearest lamp post, deep in the Dorset countryside, but now lives in the urban sprawl of the Medway towns in north Kent. He isn't an angry person, but sometimes he might sound it. Stuart was once described as being "like a young Howling Wolf stuck in the body of a pasty ginger kid!", and while this isn't quite true it's something to aspire to. This is blues for singer-songwriters, songs for blues singers. His first solo album 'A Gallon of Water Makes A Mile of Fog' was released on Sun Pier Records(distributed through Cargo Records) on Monday the 29th October 2007. A second album is under construction.

Kris Dollimore isn't from Mississippi, Chicago, Detroit, Georgia, Tennessee, or even Texas. But the haunting drive of his country blues, driven by the insistent stomp of his left foot is no less 'authentic'. This music is real.
